DESCRIPTION
Presicce, with its 23 frantoi ipogei (hypogeum oil-mills), mostly situated among ancient alleys, and the central Piazza del Popolo, is unique in the Salento territory. Among these, eight mills are located underneath Piazza del Popolo, covering an area of about 1000sqm, a small treasure of industrial archeology.
We will follow a suggestive and interesting route, to visit the ancient village that twists and turns through the alleys, the squares and the courtyard houses, the important noble buildings, the churches and chapels, the hypogeum oil mills of Via Gramsci and Piazza del Popolo.
The visit ends with the Civiltà Contadina Museum, located inside Palazzo Ducale. It will provide important evidence of local peasant culture with particular regard to the aspect of everyday life, agricultural work and the “crafts” of those people.
At the end of the visit, you can snuggle in the shade of centuries-old olive trees, surrounded by the Salento countryside. We will then served lunch, full of freshly baked terrines, olives and the classic dishes of the Apulian tradition, such as friselline, taralli, focaccia and fresh cheeses accompanied by a good glass of wine. What a privilege it is to taste two oil types while sitting on the ground in which there are thier roots… in complete silence and away from the noise of the city!
